September 20th

It was finally here.  Homecoming 2013.  Wyatt had been looking forward today for quite some time.  Today was the day he was going to get to throw out candy in the parade as "Mr. Sutton County" and then get all "fancied" up to walk with the "pretty girls" on the football field at half time.  But lo-and-behold, we wake up to a monsoon.  It NEVER rains like this in Sonora!  It hardly even sprinkles here.  In fact...we are in the middle of a drought.  So what are the odds that on Wyatt's "special" day there happens to be a torrential downpour?  But hey...I can't complain.  After all, it is what the whole town has been praying for for years!!

But since it was supposed to be a big day for Wyatt, Granny B and Granddad made the 5 hour drive to see him. He was so excited when they showed up at school to eat lunch with him.  Since Sonora ISD was letting out all schools early (at 12:00) for the parade and pep rally, we went ahead and checked him out after lunch.  (Yes, that is what I said.  School gets let out early for Homecoming.  One of the perks of living in a small town!)  But since the parade got called off due to the downpour, they ended up having the pep rally in the gym instead of on Main Street.  Bummer.  But we had fun anyway.  And Wyatt wasn't too upset over not being able to be in the parade.

Luckily, the rain eventually stopped.  The clouds rolled away and created a beautiful sunset. The football game was able to start on time...even if the field was a muddy mess.  So Wyatt was able to walk on the field during half time with all the "pretty girls" (as he calls them) and present the Homecoming Queen her crown.  When I took him to the field house at the beginning of the second quarter to get ready, he was so worried because he didn't see any of the "pretty girls" yet.  What he didn't know is they were inside getting ready.  Once he saw them, he got this HUGE grin and immediately started flirting.  I am SO in trouble!!  He is only 4!  And then he saw Paige.  He knows Paige from church.  They are buds.   In fact, he told Matt and I last year that he was going to marry her.  Well, as it turns out, he was going to be able to "escort" her onto the field since she was the queen last year.  When he saw her he asked, "Are you one of the pretty girls?"  I told him she was. And then he looked at her and said, "You look beautiful."  I mean, he is already such a ladies man.  I have no idea what I am going to do when he gets into junior high!!!

Wyatt yelling at Rowdy (the mascot) trying to get his attention, as he always does.  He LOVES Rowdy!
