October 7th

Wyatt came out of his room dressed as an astronaut after school today.  So I thought it would be a good idea to let him try the astronaut ice cream I ordered from Amazon a while back.  He loved the strawberry and the vanilla, but he was not a fan of the chocolate.  After his astronaut snack, he wanted to go ride around in his Batmobile.... just exactly what every astronaut wants to do.

September 20th

It was finally here.  Homecoming 2013.  Wyatt had been looking forward today for quite some time.  Today was the day he was going to get to throw out candy in the parade as "Mr. Sutton County" and then get all "fancied" up to walk with the "pretty girls" on the football field at half time.  But lo-and-behold, we wake up to a monsoon.  It NEVER rains like this in Sonora!  It hardly even sprinkles here.  In fact...we are in the middle of a drought.  So what are the odds that on Wyatt's "special" day there happens to be a torrential downpour?  But hey...I can't complain.  After all, it is what the whole town has been praying for for years!!

But since it was supposed to be a big day for Wyatt, Granny B and Granddad made the 5 hour drive to see him. He was so excited when they showed up at school to eat lunch with him.  Since Sonora ISD was letting out all schools early (at 12:00) for the parade and pep rally, we went ahead and checked him out after lunch.  (Yes, that is what I said.  School gets let out early for Homecoming.  One of the perks of living in a small town!)  But since the parade got called off due to the downpour, they ended up having the pep rally in the gym instead of on Main Street.  Bummer.  But we had fun anyway.  And Wyatt wasn't too upset over not being able to be in the parade.

Luckily, the rain eventually stopped.  The clouds rolled away and created a beautiful sunset. The football game was able to start on time...even if the field was a muddy mess.  So Wyatt was able to walk on the field during half time with all the "pretty girls" (as he calls them) and present the Homecoming Queen her crown.  When I took him to the field house at the beginning of the second quarter to get ready, he was so worried because he didn't see any of the "pretty girls" yet.  What he didn't know is they were inside getting ready.  Once he saw them, he got this HUGE grin and immediately started flirting.  I am SO in trouble!!  He is only 4!  And then he saw Paige.  He knows Paige from church.  They are buds.   In fact, he told Matt and I last year that he was going to marry her.  Well, as it turns out, he was going to be able to "escort" her onto the field since she was the queen last year.  When he saw her he asked, "Are you one of the pretty girls?"  I told him she was. And then he looked at her and said, "You look beautiful."  I mean, he is already such a ladies man.  I have no idea what I am going to do when he gets into junior high!!!

Wyatt yelling at Rowdy (the mascot) trying to get his attention, as he always does.  He LOVES Rowdy!

Sonora's homecoming bonfire is no joke!

September 10th

A couple of friends came over to play with Wyatt after school today...or should I say superheroes..

September 8th

Today was a special day.  Wyatt and I made a trip back to Arlington yesterday so we could be in Fort Worth this morning to surprise my Pawpaw for his birthday.  I found out this past week that my Pawpaw's church was having a special Grandparents Day service and my whole family was going to surprise my him at church for this and then have a birthday party for him afterward.  My PawPaw has been the door greeter at South Park Baptist Church in Fort Worth for 40+ years.  So I couldn't wait to see his face when he got to open the door for all of his kids and grand kids.  I am so glad I was able to make it!

This is my Pawpaw, James and my Granny, Joyce.  Hence the names "Wyatt James" and "Cassidy Joyce"

September 5th

We started working on Wyatt's very first homework assignment tonight.  He had to fill out an "All About Me" poster.  My favorite part was when I asked him what makes him a star.  He said, "Because I am a strong warrior."  He found out that is what his name means several months ago...and I guess he believes he really is living up to his name.  I absolutely love this kid!

August 26th...First Day of School

Well...we did it! Wyatt is officially in Pre-k. I have no idea how this day got here so quickly!! It feels like just yesterday I couldn't wait for him to be able to hold his own bottle.

Last night I read "The Kissing Hand" to Wyatt before bed.  So before leaving the house this morning, we made sure we had all kissed each others hands so we would be able to put our "kissing hands" up to our cheeks if we started missing each other throughout the day. Wyatt drew a heart on my hand (where he had kissed it) and a star on daddy's (but it turned out to be a cross...which Wyatt thought was funny since daddy is a pastor.)  I'm not going to lie...I put my kissed hand up to my face several times today as I was doing things around the house.  I missed my little man!

Wyatt did great when we got to school...up until the very last kisses. But even then, it wasn't too bad.  He just shed a few quick tears, but I think he was more anxious just listening to some of the other kids screaming and crying.  I was able to make it until after I got out of the cafeteria door...then the waterworks began for me.  As I turned to walk away, I had such a hard time dealing with the fact that he was the same age of the kids I used to teach.  He really is that big!  It just felt so foreign to me.  This time, I wasn't the teacher on the first day of school...I was the mommy dropping her little boy off on his very first day of school.  I had to remember all the times I had said to moms, "Quick goodbyes leave dry eyes."  So I tried hard to take my own advice that I had given all those mommy's in years past.  And I might not have been the first mommy to leave, but I wasn't the last either!  I must say, I was pretty proud of myself.  I mean, it could have been a lot worse!

As Matt and I were walking back to the car, we saw this.  Only in small town west Texas do you see horses in the drop-off line at school!

We also started a new tradition today.  Every "first day" picture will tell what he wants to be when he grows up.  It should be interesting how it changes through the years.  Wyatt first told me he wanted to be a baseball player, then quickly changed it to a basketball player.  But as I was walking away he said..."No.  Never mind.  I want to be a preacher!"  That could be because he thinks his daddy is the coolest person to have ever walked the earth.

August 23rd

This morning was Meet the Teacher.  Wyatt will be enrolled in a dual language class that he will follow all the way through 5th grade.  By the end of 5th grade he is supposed to be able to read, write, and speak in Spanish.  I really wish I would have had the same opportunity when I was his age!  His teacher this year is Mrs. Jimenez. We have heard awesome things about her, from both parents and teachers.  We are so excited to see all the things he will learn!

Wyatt wanted to play with one of his new toys when we got home, and I just had to take some pictures.  Look at his tongue!!  This is his new thing he does when he is concentrating.  I love it!  My sweet boy is growing up way too fast!
